Find where your software lacks SEO & AEO coverage. Book a Strategy Call
Your SEO tool says your best keyword gets 10 searches a month. Your sales team says buyers now ask ChatGPT which vendor to shortlist. And nobody can say which page started last quarter’s biggest deal.
That’s the gap most lists of B2B SEO tools miss. Most SEO tools are best at measuring big, busy keywords. B2B buying runs on rare searches, AI answers and sales cycles that last months.
So this list judges each tool on the four problems B2B teams actually have, not on feature count. We’re a B2B SaaS SEO agency: we don’t sell a tool, and no vendor pays us to appear here. Every price was checked on the vendor’s own pricing page on October 31, 2026, in US dollars at monthly billing unless noted. Paid ads, ABM and intent-data platforms are out of scope.
TL;DR
- Buy one tool per job, not one per feature: real demand, research, site health, content, AI visibility, pipeline.
- Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4 and HubSpot’s free CRM cover more B2B needs than most teams use.
- For one paid suite: Semrush if you want AI tracking bundled, Ahrefs if links and long history matter most.
- A complete B2B stack costs $0, about $250, or about $620 a month, depending on your team.

The 4 problems generic SEO tool lists ignore
A B2B SEO tool is worth paying for when it helps with at least one of four problems. Most “best tools” lists compare features. These four tell you which features matter for B2B.

1. Your best keywords look like zero
The searches that bring B2B buyers are too rare for tools to measure well. Keywords with fewer than 10 monthly searches make up almost 93% of Ahrefs’ US keyword database. A query like “SOC 2 software for fintech startups” lives there, and so do most of your money terms.
Search Console doesn’t fully fix it. In Ahrefs’ study of 887,534 Search Console properties, anonymized queries that Google never shows you made up 46.77% of traffic in April 2025. The same study found sites with more long-tail and niche terms tend to miss more.
The test: does the tool let you work with keywords it rates near zero, and does it pull in your Search Console data?
2. Buyers ask AI before they search
In G2’s March 2026 survey of 1,076 B2B software buyers, 51% said they start research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google. A rank tracker can’t tell you whether ChatGPT names you on a shortlist.
The test: does the tool track buyer prompts across the AI engines your buyers use, and show which of your pages get cited?
3. The sale closes months after the visit
A visit in March can become a signed contract in August. Traffic charts can’t connect the two.
The test: can the tool’s data meet your CRM, or at least track demo requests as conversions?
4. Your site is small
If your site has a few hundred pages, enterprise crawl limits are money you won’t use.
The test: does the plan fit your page count, or are you paying for scale you’ll never touch?
The best B2B SEO tools, by job
Each pick below says who it’s for, which of the four problems it helps with, and its downside.
Job 1: See your real demand (free)
Google Search Console is the only place you see Google’s own clicks and impressions for your pages, including many rare queries that third-party tools rate as zero. Since August 31, 2026, its Generative AI performance report shows how often your pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode, for every site.
- Helps with: problems 1 and 2
- Downside: it hides anonymized queries, and the AI report shows impressions by page, not the prompts behind them
- Price: free
Bing Webmaster Tools added an AI Performance report on February 10, 2026. It shows how often Microsoft Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries cite your pages, and the grounding queries behind those citations.
- Helps with: problem 2
- Downside: it covers Microsoft’s AI surfaces only, and it counts citations, not clicks
- Price: free
Job 2: Research keywords and competitors (pick one suite)
Semrush and Ahrefs overlap on most keyword and competitor research. Pick one and spend the difference on content or links.
Semrush: best for teams that want research and AI tracking on one bill. The SEO plan is $139/mo for 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. The Starter plan, $199/mo, adds 50 AI prompts a day and AI brand performance for one domain.
- Helps with: problems 1 and 2
- Pick it if: one person runs SEO and you want one login for search and AI
- Downside: extra users start at $45/mo each, which adds up for a team
Ahrefs: best for link building and long-history research. Lite is $129/mo with 750 tracked keywords, 6 months of history and 150 AI prompt checks a month. Standard is $249/mo with 2 years of history.
- Helps with: problems 1 and 2
- Pick it if: backlinks drive your plan, or you need to compare this year with last year
- Downside: Lite’s 6 months of history is shorter than many B2B sales cycles, and rank tracking updates weekly on Lite, Standard and Advanced
SE Ranking: best for tighter budgets. Core is $129/mo, or $103.20/mo billed yearly, with 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily and 25 AI prompts a day across 5 AI engines.
- Helps with: problems 1 and 2
- Pick it if: you want daily rank tracking and some AI tracking for less
- Downside: more than 25 prompts means an AI add-on from $71/mo
Job 3: Keep the site healthy
Screaming Frog SEO Spider: best for technical audits. The free version crawls up to 500 URLs, enough for many B2B SaaS sites. The paid licence is £199 a year and removes the limit.
- Helps with: problem 4
- Downside: it’s desktop software, so someone has to run the crawl and read the results
- Price: free up to 500 URLs, then £199/year
Prefer visual audit reports? Sitebulb does the same job with more charts; its cloud plans start at £95/mo.
Job 4: Brief and refresh content
Frase: best for lean teams. Starter is $49/mo ($39 billed yearly) with 10 articles a month and 20 AI visibility prompts in ChatGPT and Google AI.
- Pick it if: one writer publishes a few pieces a month
- Downside: 20 prompts is a sample, not a tracking program
Clearscope: best for teams refreshing pages that already rank. Essentials is $129/mo for 50 tracked queries and 50 pages, with ChatGPT and Gemini query tracking on every plan.
- Pick it if: your money pages need regular refreshes
- Downside: the next plan, Business, jumps to $399/mo
Job 5: Track AI answers
Once AI visibility matters to your board, give it a dedicated tool. A small prompt set gives jumpy numbers: with 20 prompts, one changed answer moves your score by 5 points.
| Tool | Starting price | Prompts | Engines |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peec AI | $95/mo | 50 | Pick 3 of 6, including ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Copilot |
| Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | $99/mo, billed yearly | 25 | ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Perplexity |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | $199/mo add-on | Custom prompt packs from $50/mo | ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot; Claude for custom prompts |
| Profound | Custom | Custom | Up to 9, including Perplexity and Claude |

Job 6: Tie SEO to pipeline
GA4 + HubSpot CRM: best for showing which pages create demos. GA4 is free: mark demo requests as key events and you can see which landing pages produce them. HubSpot’s CRM and Marketing Hub Free are free for up to 2 users.
- Helps with: problem 3
- Downside: tracing a closed deal back through every touch takes multi-touch revenue attribution, which HubSpot includes only in Marketing Hub Enterprise
- Price: free to start
Three B2B SEO stacks, by budget
The right stack depends on who does the work, not on company size.
| Stack | Fits | What’s in it | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | A founder or one marketer doing SEO part-time | Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4, HubSpot free CRM, Screaming Frog free | $0 |
| Lean | One marketer who owns SEO and publishes a few posts a month | Free stack + Semrush Starter ($199) + Frase Starter ($49) | $248 |
| Team | A content team building links and reporting AI visibility to leadership | Free stack + Ahrefs Standard ($249) + Peec AI Pro ($245, 150 prompts) + Clearscope Essentials ($129) | $623 |
Add Screaming Frog’s paid licence (£199/year) to any stack once your site passes 500 URLs.

What to skip
- Two all-in-one suites. You’ll pay twice for the same keyword data.
- AI tracking with a handful of prompts. Small samples swing on a single answer. Track at least the 25 to 50 prompts your buyers really ask.
- A content tool before a content plan. Briefs for the wrong topics are still the wrong topics.
- Crawl capacity a small site won’t use.
You may not need an agency either. If one person runs SEO on a small site, the free stack plus one suite is enough to start.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What makes an SEO tool good for B2B?
It handles keywords with almost no measured volume, shows whether AI answers mention you, and connects to the conversions that matter, usually demo requests. Feature count matters less than those three.
Semrush or Ahrefs for B2B SaaS?
Pick Semrush if you want daily rank tracking and AI prompt tracking in one plan. Pick Ahrefs if link building drives your strategy or you need years of history. Very few teams need both.
Are free SEO tools enough for B2B?
For a small site with one part-time owner, yes. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4 and a free CRM show real demand, AI citations and demo conversions. You outgrow them when you need competitor research or prompt tracking at scale.
Is there one best SEO platform for B2B?
No single platform does all six jobs well. Semrush and Ahrefs come closest, with research, rank tracking, site audits and some AI tracking in one login. Neither replaces Search Console’s first-party data or a CRM that knows which deals closed.
How do I find B2B keywords that tools show as zero volume?
Start with your own data: sales call notes, support tickets and Search Console queries. Treat third-party volume as a rough guide, not a filter.
Your next step
Tools show you data. They don’t tell you which ten pages will bring demos next quarter.
